July 22nd, 2010 - Vintage Industrial and Custom Furniture
I keep falling more in love with industrial design and furniture. Industrial pieces were crafted to withstand daily use in factories, warehouses, hospitals, etc. After 50-100 years of use, these items have a patina unlike anything that can be reproduced…and they are virtually indestructible. These items are ready-made conversation and signature pieces. Instead of people categorizing your tastes as Knoll, Herman Miller, or any of the other fad designers, they will grapple over the mystery…“Where in the hell did you get that?” The same with custom-made furniture. I challenge you to be unique and collaborate with a local furniture maker on a piece that only you will have. Not only will you get to own a piece of your own, you will get to meet some truly talented artists and craftsmen.
